MISSION

The mission and focus of Hickman Humane Society, Inc. (HHS) is to benefit the lives of the animals and people in our county by providing for the humane treatment of pets through an aggressive spay/neuter program, animal cruelty prevention, education and investigation, rehabilitation of neglect or abused pets, and public education with a goal of reducing the over population, neglect and abuse of animals. Animals in our care, once rehabilitated, are placed for adoption into carefully approved homes.

  • Established in 1994, HHS is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization dedicated to animal welfare in Hickman County, Tennessee.

  • Operated entirely by volunteers, we rescue, shelter, and rehabilitate hundreds of dogs and cats annually.

  • Many of these animals have been abused, injured, surrendered by their owners, or found as strays.

  • As a no-kill organization, every treatable pet in our care stays with us until they find a home or necessary placement with another no-kill organization.

  • No pet in our care is ever euthanized to create space.

  • As a local nonprofit, we are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and do not receive funding from federal or national animal welfare organizations.

  • Our support comes from fundraising, membership dues, adoption fees, and grants. We are a shelterless humane society with no paid staff.
